Ever since I was young I have loved movies. Comedies, action, drama, romance, horror and indie, I would just enjoy the pure cinematography of it. From the lighting, to the camera work, to the score I could not get enough of it. Movies are a great way to hone in imagination, on creativity and truly be captured by the artwork of someone else’s ideas and mind. It can start off as a simple movie night with family or is can be a reward at the end of the week. Whatever the case may be, movies have been and always will be a great way to relax and enjoy imagination and get lost in oneself.

In one case, sometimes movies can be a great way to escape reality. May it be a stressful week or an upsetting time, watching a movie can sometimes immerse you into a world you never thought was possible. Watching Lord of the Rings can fill your head with ideas of Orcs, Elves, Dwarves and Hobbits, watching Harry Potter can fill your head with Magic, Spells and potions. You can watch a romantic movie and picture what your life would be like if that was you. Your other half may forget everything every day like in 50 First Dates or your child may ask about your “How we met” story and you may try and make it interested like Definitely, Maybe. Movies can be an escape into a life you may like or maybe a life you are glad you do not have.

A movie I’ve watched recently is The Secret Life of Walter Mitty which is a great example of how you can be lost in something without the proper stimulation. The movie is about a man who was always caught daydreaming because he never had any adventures of his own. He was left was an empty space in his life of that excitement and compensated by having this vivid imagination of “what ifs” and crazy scenarios that would satisfy his mind. They eventually started to fade when he actually went out and had adventures of his own. This is just an example of how proper stimulation can affect life. No different than how a movie can be an escape to your imagination and a possible way to relax to properly use your mind.

Watching movies can motivate to new heights in proper scenarios. They can show you what you can accomplish if you put your mind to it. No knight was immediately adept to swordplay. No musician proficient with scales. Life takes practice and seeing the rise and fall of a hero in a movie can show that anything is possible. Movies are nothing but a great way to focus and see how life can be, if nothing else but a way to relax in a comedy and calm your mind.
